Graphics card for Bitcoin mining
Hi, I just did a major overhaul to my computer, and part of that was installing a used Gigabyte 7950 3GB graphics card someone is willing to sell me. He wants me to use it a while to make sure it's going to be good for me, and to make sure it isn't going to fail since he used it quite a bit for bitcoin mining.
He wants $75 for it, and to me that seems a little pricey.
I see the same card go for $140 to $160 used, but $75 seems risky based on his usage.
So, he ran it constantly, getting it very warm of course, then pulled it and it sat around unused for over half a year he says.
It is working fine for me, but my real concern is at $75 is it worth the risk? Or is it a good deal?
I don't know what kind of use/abuse a GPU can suffer before it starts to fail?
Or... am I being unreasonable even worrying about it?
I know the 7950 is equivalent to the R9 280 (according to what I've read), so it's really "near" the top of the AMD line currently. correct?
I'm thinking of giving it back, and reinstalling my XFX 7750 1GB. And waiting til I see a good deal on a "new" card (Christmas is coming so deals are too).
Anyway... if people could help answer the above questions... and give any further advice, I would very much appreciate it.
